Welcome to an unofficial website of the town of Bácsky Petrovec. This site is meant for everybody who is interested in all kinds of information about Bácsky Petrovec. We offer you a gallery full of pictures of the town and its environmentand as well as many interesting texts about its beginnings in the past and the present days.

Bacsky Petrovec is both the largest settlement in the municipality and the largest Slovak town not only in the region of Backa but also in the regions of Banat and Srem what makes it the ethnical, cultural and religious center of the Slovaks.

The first written records about its existence date back into the 14 century. Around the mid 1800 Backi Petrovac was settled by the Hungarians but the majority of the settlers were of the Slovak descent. In the 18 and 19 century there was a huge Feudal Estate of Futog, which encircled Bácsky Petrovec and a nearby village of Hložany. Bácsky Petrovec had an important role in the liberation movement of Novi Sad’s partisans against the Germans, the Hungarians and other collaborative parties that occupied this teritory in World War II There is a historical monument put up as a memento of all the 1941 victims of the Natzi terror that were hanged on the town’s square. The other important historical monument is the old church which has been put up in 1813 and still stands in a nearby village of Kulpin.

Bácsky Petrovec is a centre of all kinds of cultural, educational, musical and many other happenings linked with the tradition of Slovaks . The Slovak Grammar School was established here in 1919 and The College of Teaching followed some time later where the teaching is held in the Slovak language of instruction. The town also has The National Museum and The Slovak Theatre.
